Mane 6 Grandkids Flora's sons

The grandsons of Fluttershy, a pony who loved nature, Cypress and Tundra have fitting names. Cypress is named after the cypress tree and Tundra shares a name with the cold biome, the tundra.

Cypress is the older one. (21 years old)

Cypress is a confident, disciplined, and hardworking stallion. He is a no-nonsense type who prefers to let his actions speak louder than his words and strives for excellence in anything he does. No matter what task it may be, he gives it his all. This made Applejack very happy when he would work at Sweet Apple Acres during his high-school years. That's not to say that Cypress is all work and no play, though. He enjoys hanging out with his buddies Gold Rush and Perseus as well as the other Mane Six grandkids. He is very active and loves playing sports and, like his brother Tundra, he loves food and can eat a lot (much to Flora's dismay).

Cypress is a fairly quiet individual, reminiscent to his grandmother Fluttershy. However, where her silence was a result of shyness, his comes from a listen-first-talk-later mentality. He is conversational but not chatty, caring but not emotional, masculine but not overly so. An important thing to know about Cypress is that he has nothing to prove to anypony else and he really doesn't care what other people think of him. When faced with confrontation, he's water off a duck's back, letting things slide and moving past them. To him, arguing and fighting isn't worth the time and effort. At the same time, all this can be a negative too. Because Cypress is so confident in what he does and believes, it is nearly impossible to convince him otherwise. This stubborn drive in him has made him butt heads with other ponies on occasion. Inflexibility aside, Cypress is a great guy who is a lot more thoughtful and kind than his calm persona lets on. If anypony ever needs help, they look to him, and while he's not one to berate another pony's stupid mistakes, he isn't afraid to give his best friends or brother a smack in the back of the head when they deserve it. (In a humorous way.... think NCIS)

Tundra is the younger one. (19 years old)

Tundra is a lot freer of a personality than his big brother. Where Cypress is a more reserved talker, Tundra can't seem to shut his mouth, and where Cypress is firm but quiet in his confidence, Tundra is very open about his. Overconfident can be an understatement with him as he thrives on showing off and getting attention. He at the very least has the athletic ability to back up his boasts. He loves having his freedom and going flying is one of his favorite things to do.

While modesty may not be one of Tundra's biggest traits, humor is certainly a strong one of his. Tundra absolutely loves wisecracks and is quite witty without trying. He has mastered the "comeback" and pulls quips and jokes from nowhere. He takes everything very lightheartedly and is not a hothead like Rainbow Dash was, so other ponies do enjoy spending time with him. While this lack of taking things seriously isn't always best for him, his good nature certainly makes his high self-confidence much more bearable. He enjoys making other ponies laugh and revels in being an entertainer for others' delight. Sometimes he can forget when to turn the show off when necessary, but if it is the heart that counts, then his heart is still in the right place because of his love for other ponies having a good time.

This trait makes his special talent and occupation perfect for him. His talent is athletics and he is a striker in the Equestrian Hoofball League (aka "soccer" or "futbol"). Because regulations require that he tape his wings down, Tundra takes pride in being a pegasus playing an earth pony's sport. He feels that it properly challenges him and allows him to show others just how good he really is. He is still young to the professional sport, but his abilities have gained him a growing fanbase, which he loves. And if there is anything in the world that he is good at, it's putting on a show for big crowds.


DESIGN:

CYPRESS' design was an experiment. I wanted to see and make a pony with his mane buzzed short on the sides and taller on the top. This style both fits him well, I think. For his colors, green was something I wanted someone named Cypress to be. Obviously I had to differentiate him from his also-green mother Flora, so I gave him a more olive hue, which fits in nicely with Italian cypresses. Like Flora and Fluttershy, Cypress has aquamarine-colored eyes.

I gave TUNDRA colors that some may not have expected from a name that brings up thoughts of cold landscapes. Just google "Tundra" and you will see why he is red. The Tundra is a cold biome that makes it difficult for trees to grow. Plantlife there mostly consists of shrubs, grasses, and mosses, and a great deal of these plants are of the red/orange/brown color variety. Thus, red coat with brown hair! Speaking of hair, Tundra is the first original male pony I have designed with long hair. I'm not very used to it, but I am incredibly proud of how it turned out. Plus, giving him a long mane gave him a nice contrast from his short haired brother.
